Cherokee County Comprehensive Transportation Plan

Citizen Survey - Project Calendar - Supporting Documentation
Spring 2007 Fact Sheet
Documents from May 2007 Presentation
Background
The Cherokee County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) is a 25-year long-range, multi-modal plan that will provide the citizens of Cherokee County with transportation choices, improved mobility and air quality, and better connectivity to land uses. The primary goal is to plan for the safe and efficient movement of goods, people and services within and around the County. During the next 25-year period, we anticipate that county growth will be robust, from 190,000 to more than 400,000 citizens. The CTP process is beginning as the County completes the Comprehensive Plan process, thus re-enforcing the linkage between land use and transportation. The CTP will be the blueprint for transportation decision-making and investments over the next 25 years in Cherokee County and its cities, Ball Ground, Canton, Holly Springs, Waleska, and Woodstock, which are partnering in this important study.

What’s Happening Now
  • The study team has been collecting transportation, land use and environmental data to evaluate current and future transportation conditions and needs.
  • · A Project Management Committee, made up of technical personnel from the County, the Cities and planning partners such as the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Georgia Department of Transportation and others, has been organized to oversee execution of the study. A Stakeholder Advisory Committee, composed of public officials and citizen representatives, is in the process of being formed. The Committee will provide guidance and oversight throughout the study process and will be an important link to the general public.
Why the CTP Is Important to You
  • Reduction in traffic congestion can add to your quality of life, in that you will have more time to spend with family or in personal pursuits. You will have less stress and waste less time in traffic.
  • Reduction in highway accidents will reduce the number of injuries, lost lives and cost of healthcare and property damage.
  • Different modes of transportation provide choices and increase mobility for everyone, including those who can’t drive and/or those who are aging.
  • Transportation alternatives positively affect air quality and thus the quality of your health.
  • New and expanding businesses are attracted to communities with a well-planned transportation system.
How You Can Get Involved
  • The Community Participation Program (CPP) is a coordinated, comprehensive and inclusive effort to help citizens understand the CTP and share their transportation insights with the study team, and it is one of the most important elements of the study. Citizens can get involved in a variety of ways, including workshops, public meetings and hearings, email messages, telephone, mail, public comment forms, and citizen surveys.
  • Attend all public meetings/workshops/hearings scheduled during the study and invite others to participate.
  • · Please let the study team know of any public events or local publications that can help us distribute information on the development of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan.
  • Please fill out and return the citizen survey
